Soros, George (sôr'ōs) , 1930–, American stock trader and philanthropist, b. Budapest, Hungary, as George Schwartz. He studied under Sir Karl Popper at the London School of Economics (grad. 1952). He emigrated from Hungary to Great Britain (1947) and then to the United States (1956). Soros mostly worked as a financial analyst, and in 1969 he founded the first of his offshore hedge funds. His Quantum funds grew in value tremendously, partly through speculation in foreign currency. He earned (1992) $1 billion on the fall of the British pound and notoriety as “the man who broke the Bank of England.” In the late 1990s, financial analysts and government officials charged that this speculation had helped destabilize Asian and Latin American national economies. Ted Turner confirms Russian television network buy
April 4, 2001 Turner Ventures International, an investment vehicle formed by CNN Founder Ted Turner, confirmed it has reached an agreement with Vladimir Guzinsky, the owner of Russia's only independent television network, to buy a share of NTV.
Pending the successful negotiation of a similar contract with Gazprom and Gazprom-Media, which took over NTV on April 2, the agreement would ensure the future of the Russian television networks NTV, TNT and NTV+ as free and independent media companies, Turner Ventures said.
"While we are disappointed with the recent disruptive developments regarding NTV, we look forward with enthusiasm to finalizing an agreement with Gazprom and Gazprom-Media that will ensure the ongoing independence of NTV," Turner said in a written statement. "In earlier negotiations with Gazprom, we both agreed that no one party should have control of NTV and we are pursuing that course. Our goal is to secure the financial underpinnings of the company and establish a mechanism for growing the business in order to strengthen NTV's prominence and scope throughout Russia."

War Child was set up in 1993 by two friends, David Wilson, a former teacher and art agent, and Bill Leeson, a film maker. The rock musician Brian Eno describes both as "heroic figures" for being brave enough to go to Bosnia when bullets and bombs were flying and ethnic cleansing was at its height. It was launched at the Royal Festival Hall, London, during a three-day event at which the playwright Sir Tom Stoppard, its first patron, gave a reading.
The charity's first big project was a mobile bakery in Bosnia that was feeding 15,000 people a week in east Mostar and frontline villages.

Dutch royal scandal sheds light on former 'Bosnia lobby'
The 'charity' War Child was used a a cover for arms lobbying during the Bosnia war. War Child was always a politically dubious organisation, and was involved in financial scandals before. The current scandal in the Netherlands about the fiancee of Prince Friso - Mabel Wisse Smit - has unexpectedly given an insight into War Child. Mabel was a co-founder of War Child Netherlands, and that is not as admirable as it seems.
The scandal has been misreported outside the Netherlands as a sort of romantic tragedy. Even in the Netherlands, attention concentrated on Mabel's affair with gangster Klaas Bruinsma while she was at university.
But the later period is much more interesting. The truth is that Mabel Wisse Smit was thoroughly involved in the international pro-Bosnia lobby, including its illegal arms lobby activities. She worked at the United Nations in 1993: there was an all-out war in Croatia, and the Bosnian war was starting ...
In the course of her involvement Miss. Wisse Smit has been in close contact with Adnan Kashoggi who was one of the major weapons suppliers to the Bosnian Muslims. Background to her involvement as well her effectiveness is largely due to both her extensive knowledge of the international narcortics scene as the extensive network of relevant contacts she had accumulated during the period of her overt involvement with the Dutch narcotics kingpin Bruisma.
An important aspect are her confirmed relations to the Scientology Cult and namely OSA the Scientology Cult's "intelligence branch" which in turn is operating as an CIA proxy facilitating obscure operations. Scientology in turn is connected with OSI as with Soros, it's founder, and of which Mabel Wisse Smit later became director.
The founders of War Child in Britain, Bill Leeson and David Wilson, must have known what they were doing, when they let Mabel Wisse Smit use their organisation's name and logo. They must have known that the EACPB was a pro-Bosnian group, and that she had links to Sacirbey. But in any case, War Child was funded from the start by the British government: it was never a neutral aid organisation, and they would not have got funding if they did not serve British policy.

Ukraine's "Orange Revolution" of 2004-2005 was a series of protests and political events that took place throughout the country in response to allegations of massive corruption, voter intimidation and direct electoral fraud during Ukraine's Presidential Run-off Election of November 21, 2004, as reported by numerous domestic and foreign observers. The November 21, 2004 run-off was mandated by Ukrainian law because, according to the official results of the presidential election held on October 31, 2004, no candidate carried the absolute majority of the vote cast (50 % plus 1 vote), a case where a run-off between two top candidates with the highest number of votes was specifically required by the law. The winner of the run-off was to become the country's third president since its 1991 independence following the demise of the Soviet Union.

Orange was adopted by the protesters as the official color of the movement because it was the predominant color in opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko's election campaign during his run for president. The symbol of solidarity with Yushchenko's movement in Ukraine is an orange ribbon or a flag bearing his "Tak! (Yes!) Yushchenko!" slogan.
Sometimes called the Chestnut Revolution due to the abundance of chestnut trees in Kiev — the capital city of Ukraine and center of the revolution where a large 24-hour tent city was set up by Yushchenko supporters —the action was highlighted by a series of nationwide protests, sit-ins, and planned general strikes, organized by supporters of opposition candidate Yushchenko following the disputed results of the November 21 run-off election.
Due in large part to the movement's efforts, the results of the original run-off were annulled and a second run-off election was ordered by Ukraine's Supreme Court for December 26, 2004. Under intense international scrutiny, the official results of the second run-off proved to be virtually problem-free, legally valid and clearly in Yuschenko's favor. Ex-minister found dead hours before questioning
A leading Ukrainian politician was found dead at his home today, hours before he was due to be questioned about his part in ordering the murder of an investigative journalist.
Yuriy Kravchenko was Ukraine's Interior Minister in 2000, at the time that reporter Georgiy Gongadze was abducted, decapitated and his headless body buried in the woods near Kiev. His head has never been found.
Today Mr Kravchenko was due to answer questions about a secretly taped conversation about Mr Gongadze, in which the then Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma is heard ordering ordering Mr Kravchenko to "drive him out, throw (him) out, give him to the Chechens". The tape was made by Mr Kuchma's bodyguard.
Rather than face the shame of a trial, Mr Kravchenko appears to have taken the easy way out of killing himself. An official report says that his death was suicide.
The implications of the Gongadze murder have shaken the foundations of the Ukraine, and led directly to the Orange Revolution in December in which reformers seized power in the ex-Soviet republic. -

Russian News Agency Questions Ukranian Politicians "Suicide"
"KIEV, March 4 (RIA Novosti) - According to unofficial information, two bullet wounds have been discovered on the body of Yuri Kravchenko, the former interior minister of Ukraine, who was found dead at his country house today, Channel Five of the Ukrainian television reports.
The former Ukrainian minister was found dead at his country house outside Kiev on Friday. According to initial reports, he had committed suicide. On Friday, Mr. Kravchenko was to come to the Prosecutor General's Office to testify on the case of Georgy Gongadze, a murdered journalist.
At the same time, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko does not rule it out that the murder of Yuri Kravchenko was an attempt to 'close' the case of Georgy Gongadze. The prime minister believes that 'if Gen. Kravchenko had shot himself, it confirms that he must have been connected with 'the Gongadze case.' " Times Online

FBI seizes IMC servers

It is a story with components that would have most conspiracy theorists running for the nearest tinfoil hat shop: a radical media organisation, the FBI and an apparently anonymous foreign government.
Last week, Rackspace, a hosting company with headquarters in Texas, handed two of its London-based web servers to the FBI after a subpoena for their contents was issued by a US district court. The servers contained material belonging to the Independent Media Centre - better known as Indymedia - a conglomeration of global radical anti-globalisation sites produced by ordinary citizens. Indymedia claims it was not informed of the decision to seize its content, nor has it been told the reasons, despite the fact that 20 sites and more than 1m pieces of content were affected.
The FBI has said it was acting on behalf of a foreign government, though for the American subpoena to have power in the UK, it would need approval from either the British courts or the home secretary. Such agreements would usually be made over investigations into terrorism, though nobody involved has been able to confirm this.
Rackspace said it is complying with a court order "which establishes procedures for countries to assist each other in investigations such as international terrorism, kidnapping and money laundering". Clearly, such serious allegations against any media organisation - even one produced by amateurs - could be devastating.
"The site crashed last Thursday at 4pm," says one Indymedia UK volunteer who asked to remain anonymous. "Since then, the only official communication we've had was from Rackspace, but they would only say they couldn't tell us what was going on. No one at the FBI has talked to us about this, and we have not been told anything."

Now that the servers have been returned, the question still remains: who took them, and under what authority? Citing a gag order, Rackspace would not comment on what had happened both in the original seizure of the servers or their return. All that is known at this point is that the subpoena that resulted in the seizure was issued at the request of a foreign government, most likely with the assistance of the United States Attorney's Office in San Antonio.
