It's only a Game!

Capt. Wardrobe - December 2021

A critical element is time

Constricting time is a valued element of gameplay
completing tasks within a set time limit
(one could add physical constraints too)
will likely become pervasive in some realms,
while in others a more free roaming sandbox will allow endless play.

Will the endless play found in these types or arenas
be utilised as a higher level reward?

Programmable assets as games within games:

resources and the use of assets could be set on a time limit as could real world credits awarded in the social credit system

indeed we may see an element now evident in crypto currency itself with token availability being set at a defined number

Certain games may be periodically reset - setting all to zero

An element of chance - Gambling

it is recognised that gambling can be an addictive & destructive force

how much of the virtual world of gaming within the metaverse be based on chance within gameplay,
or indeed the control of chance
as a rigged algorythm known to all but the desperate,
historically seen in casino machines, those lovely old arcades.
pub gambling machines;
oh and, all US elections electronic voting mechanisms;
(sorry could not resist that reference, what did Trump used to do by the way?)

Just how will casinos operate within the realm of the meatserve, sorry metaverse...

META VERSE = MEAT SERVE

Gambling & Professional Sports syndication=a big problem

The trillion Dollar Gambling Game

"...despite the regulations put in place by the British Gambling Commission, these operators have escaped all scrutiny. To avoid the gaze of the regulators, all they have to do is to use an intermediary which will obtain a UK licence for them – through a so-called “white label” agent, of which one, TGP Europe Ltd, based in the Isle of Man tax haven, dominates the British market. There they can then hide in plain sight with no fear of investigation, sponsoring club shirts and becoming ‘partners’ of some of the biggest clubs in the world. Josimar can now reveal, following a year-long investigation conducted with the help of gambling industry insiders, the true nature of this business and how English football has turned a blind eye to the origin of the tainted money on which it relies to a greater extent than ever before."

CHEATING IS PART OF THE GAME

Will we see a bartering of tokens or resources leading to a black market culture of cheats - swaps and hacks?

OF COURSE WE WILL.

note; this sort of thing has has been revealed by People make games in their pt2 Roblox investigation; in their follow up in the Roblox realm - in which we see a stock exchange dealing on add-on market economy - with values spurring out of gamified behaviour conditioning - for under 15's and a complete black market economy - already in full view of anyone who should be examining & regulating this industry.

As a Musician who has been utilising Virtual studio technology for 25 years, I can impart to you that an entire industry of cracked hacked software has arisen in the drive to sell people the dream of becoming the next Daft Punk or Scrillex. Perhaps i'm showing my age there, but what i have learned is that Movies, games, software, music have all been a digital black market for nigh on a quarter of a century with now defunct Napster & still active, Pirate Bay both facing very different futures.

Hasn't this also been evident as a legitimised industry in it's own right within the gaming community?

Why isn't anyone talking about it?

Ahoy Shipmates!

co-inky-dink!
The Black Market, to my mind is a SCAM. Are People really getting content or apps for free? How do they gain access to the internet? Internet Service providers. Who owns these companies? The very same people who have their content seemingly ripped from the contraints of subscriptions to, or ownership of multi-levelled, basic entry to premium versions of software that can, for a budding content providers, musicians, artists, or game developers; when it's all added up, cost a lot of money. Of course continuous upgrade culture plays a major part of this scam...

Levelling up Software/hardware/abilities & the quest for professional quality is another form of gamifycation. Or is it a scam? or are they both the same thing these days?

I would posit the game is being run from very high indeed.

This is a circus. In this arena all that matters to the ringmaster; is bums on seats. Once you have a captive audience who are unwittingly consuming while they think they are rebelling, any clown can be put in the ring.

And, further; if people can hack it and frack the metaverse for resources - what's to stop top down reallignment and the resetting to ZERO - of uppity consumer avatars, or those doing, naughty thinking thoughts, or things labelled, according to an ever changing dictat "tokenised" as unlawful in meatspace?

Would the hack & crack black market be a way to control users? What is to stop deliberate hacks by the slave owners on those deemed targets - to justify cyber virtual terrorism - just like the real world?

Whats to stop a virtual cyber hit squad, made into an enticing spygame; eliminating avatars & setting them to net zero in the real world?

mixing metaverse social gaming society
social credit scoring ramifications.

A social deduction game is a game in which players attempt to uncover each other's hidden role or team allegiance. Commonly, these games are played with teams, with one team being considered "good" and another being "bad".

wikipedia

Could we see a virtual society encouraging deceit to win. Gaining trust in certain players, only to join others to knock peoples scores down and eliminate them?

This video from People Make Games highlights a game called Tank Turn, which was experimentally tested in the studio with game developer team members taking part - what started as a friendly game ended up as socially damaging & divisive. Players banding together to knock others out. Off-game scheming, obsession & vitriol took over many in the office.

Now put this scenario into a metaverse that is all encompassing surround virtual reality, with the added wrinkle of social credit scoring in real life & the interaction that accompanies that...comparing aquired social scores to judge character flaws in potential adversarys or alliances.

This is no doubt going to pit human against human.

Is this a civilised society?

Social deduction games are very popular
